命運／停駐之夜讲了什么？
故事的主軸是一場圍繞聖杯而進行的戰爭，聖杯可以實現入手者的任何願望。要令聖杯出現，必須要七位禦主（Master）與七位從者（Servant）齊集才能開始，Servant 一共有七個職階：Rider（騎士）、Archer（弓兵）、Lancer（槍兵）、Caster（魔術師）、Berserker（狂戰士）、Saber（劍士）與 Assassin（暗殺者）。Master 必須與這七種類的 Servant 其中一位訂下契約，並證明自己是最適合聖杯的人。換言之，Master 必須消去其他的 Master 來證明自己是最強的。這個求取聖杯的儀式被稱為─「聖杯戰爭」。本部動畫的主人公是位不成材的魔術師「衞宮士郎」，在偶然的情況下捲入聖杯戰爭當中，與七人從者之一「Saber」結下了契約，在非自願的情況下成為七人 Master 其中之一……
